Tolerance Begins At Home
Description
A basic understanding of world religions is increasingly important in our society as we seek to create peaceful coexistence among people of all faiths and no faith. In this short public series, Dr. Jill Carroll of Rice University's Boniuk Center for Religious Tolerance and Resident Scholars will explain the "basics" of 5 major world religions: Hinduism, Buddhism, Judaism, Islam, and Sikhism. An introductory session will give an overview of how to study and think about religions in a more scholarly, non-devotional context, and will illustrate the basic components of all major world religions. People of all backgrounds are welcome, and will find this class helpful regardless of any prior knowledge about religion.
The fall series class will be held at the Islamic Da'wah center at 201 Travis St Houston, TX 77002. Classes will meet from 7pm-9pm on the following dates: 10/7/08; 10/14/08; 10/21/08; 11/6/08; 11/11/08; 11/18/08.
